Flights to New York from the UK depart from London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Birmingham, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Nottingham.

New York airports
New York City has three airports: John F. Kennedy International (JFK), Newark Liberty International (EWR) and La Guardia (LGA).
Flights from the UK serve all of New York’s three airports, direct to JFK and Newark, indirect to La Guardia, which might be an option if you don’t mind connecting with a domestic flight within the USA.
John F. Kennedy International is located 12 miles (20km) from Lower Manhattan in Jamaica, Queens, in the south-east of New York City. With six terminals and dealing with over 50 million passengers a year, JFK is New York City’s biggest and busiest airport and the main airport for international air traffic serving the USA. The AirTrain JFK connects all the airport terminals and is also connected to Long Island Rail Road and the New York City Subway in Queens.
Getting into New York from JFK is straightforward. It takes 30-40 minutes to Midtown Manhattan by train. Alternatively, take the NYC Airporter shuttle bus, which serves Grand Central, Penn Station and Port Authority. Or take an iconic yellow cab, but beware that bus and taxi travel times are dependent on traffic and can take between 30 minutes and an hour and a half.
Newark Liberty International is not in New York itself, but in New Jersey, although it is only 14 miles (24km) from midtown Manhattan. The main advantage of flying into Newark is that it is a quieter airport, while still offering good transport links into the city. Take the AirTrain into New York Penn Station for connection to the NYC Subway, or take the bus, but this takes longer – from one-and-a-half to two hours.
La Guardia is the smallest of New York’s three main airports, mostly handling domestic flights. It is the closest airport to Manhattan, eight miles to the east of the city. There are a number of options to get to Manhattan and elsewhere in NYC: the New York City Subway, the NYC Airporter Bus, or taxi, which takes 20-40 minutes.

It is always a good time to visit New York. The busiest period is around Thanksgiving and in the build-up to Christmas, when the city feels most movie-like, thanks to department store window displays, outdoor ice skating, and shopping. New Year’s Eve draws visitors to the celebrations in Times Square. Summer is the busiest time for number of international tourists.
The best time to get a cheap flight deal to New York is probably late winter and early spring when the city is at its quietest, but of course, it is the city that never sleeps! Thanks to the amount of competition, there are flight deals to be found in the peak summer months too.

New York City is famous for its skyline, dominated by soaring skyscrapers and the Statue of Liberty. At ground level you’ll find a unique vibe that comes from the city’s status as a real multi-cultural melting pot.
